Why pH Balance Matters in Your Worm Composter – And How to Keep It Right

Keeping your worm composting bin healthy means getting the pH balance just right. Worms thrive in a neutral environment – too acidic and they’ll be wriggling in distress.

Ideal pH Levels for Worm Composting
Worms prefer a pH around 7. Anything from 6 to 8 is generally acceptable, but if your bin gets too acidic, they’ll start to suffer. If you’ve got a pH meter, it’s worth checking the levels regularly to make sure you’re in the worm-friendly zone.

What to Avoid and How to Fix Acidity
Avoid adding very acidic kitchen scraps like citrus peels or onions. To keep things in balance, sprinkle a handful of our Wiggly Wigglers Lime Mix on top of your waste every couple of weeks. It’s an easy fix that will help keep your compost bin in perfect harmony.

Top Tip: A neutral pH not only keeps your worms happy but helps break down food waste more efficiently too.
