Storing Live Mealworms

If you need to store live mealworms, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure their survival:
  1. Container: Mealworms need a container with good ventilation, such as a plastic tub with small holes or a cardboard box with air vents. Avoid using metal containers as they can get too hot and harm the mealworms.
  2. Bedding: Mealworms need bedding to burrow into, such as oatmeal, wheat bran, or cornmeal. The bedding should be kept dry, as moisture can cause mold growth and harm the mealworms.
  3. Food: Mealworms can survive on a variety of foods, such as oats, cornmeal, wheat bran, or sliced carrots. It is important to provide them with fresh food regularly, and to remove any uneaten food to prevent mold growth.
  4. Temperature: Mealworms prefer temperatures between 21-27°C. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight or in an area that gets too hot or too cold.
  5. Maintenance: Check on your mealworms regularly to ensure they are healthy and the bedding is dry. Remove any dead mealworms, uneaten food, or feces from the container.
By following these guidelines, you can store live mealworms for several weeks or even months. However, if you plan to breed mealworms, you may need to provide additional care and attention to ensure their optimal growth and reproduction.
