Straight off the sheep and straight to your soil — Wiggly Woolch is a 100% natural, chemical-free mulch made from the raw fleeces of neighbouring Herefordshire sheep.

Each box is hand-packed here on our farm with real British wool that’s travelled only a few miles, giving local farmers a fairer return for a product that’s sadly lost most of its market value.

Instead of fetching pennies from the Wool Board which is far less than the cost of shearing, we buy it directly and put it to brilliant use — protecting soil, feeding plants, holding water, and supporting birds, wildlife, hens and even worms.

  • 100% British raw sheep’s wool – sourced only from nearby Herefordshire farms.

  • Excellent water retention – holds up to 30× its weight in water.

  • Slow-release nitrogen and natural fertiliser as it breaks down.

  • Long-lasting – typically 12–24 months depending on weather and worms.

  • Perfect mulch for fruit, veg, shrubs, pots and paths.

  • Great nesting material – birds and hens love its warmth and softness.

  • Useful in wormeries and compost heaps as bedding and moisture control.

  • Contains lanolin and a bit of poop – so wear gloves!

  • Packed loose in recyclable cardboard boxes – no plastic, no fuss.

For Mulching:
– Spread wool 2–3 inches thick around plants, trees, or veg beds.
– Water before and after laying so it settles into the soil surface.
– Perfect under fruit trees, shrubs, or soft fruit cages.
– Brilliant beneath gravel or bark paths to suppress weeds.

For Birds, Wildlife & Hens:
– Pull off small tufts and tuck them into hedges or nesting boxes — wild birds and hens use it to line and insulate nests.
– Replace occasionally so it stays clean and dry.

In Compost & Worm Farms:
– Add as a carbon-rich bedding layer or to balance wet food waste.
– Helps regulate moisture, adds nitrogen and prevents compaction.
– Breaks down slowly, improving structure and microbial diversity.

Wiggly Tip:
Layer Woolch under your compost heap or worm bin to soak up moisture and odour — worms love wriggling through it once it starts breaking down.

At Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, we collect raw wool from neighbouring farms — all within a few miles of our yard. Each fleece is shaken, sorted and boxed by hand, unwashed and untreated, so it keeps its lanolin, natural oils, and nutrients.

Lanolin gives Woolch its characteristic “sheepy” smell and slightly waxy feel. It helps repel water at first (excellent for weed suppression) before breaking down gradually to feed soil life.

We pack it loose in recyclable cardboard boxes, wrapped simply with paper or hessian — no plastic, no processing, no chemicals. It’s regenerative, local, and completely waste-free.

Sustainability & Packaging
– Wool sourced within 5–10 miles.
– Packed by hand on-farm in recyclable boxes.
– 100 % biodegradable and compostable.
– Keeps carbon local — no shipping halfway round the world.

Wiggly Tip:
Don’t worry if you find hay or straw — it’s part of its charm and adds extra organic matter.

Wool is a wonder material:

  • High in nitrogen (≈10–12 %), plus potassium, sulphur and trace minerals.
  • Holds up to 30× its weight in water, reducing irrigation needs.
  • Insulates soil, keeping roots cool in summer and warm in winter.
  • Suppresses weeds naturally by blocking light and smothering seedlings.
  • Releases nutrients slowly over 12–24 months, feeding plants and soil microbes.
  • Adds carbon to soil as it decomposes, improving structure and biodiversity.
  • Lanolin helps deter slugs and encourages beneficial fungi.

Woolch transforms from fleece to fertile humus, building a healthier, moister, more resilient soil that holds carbon and supports life — the perfect regenerative product.

Wiggly Tip:
Lift it after a year and you’ll find worms, roots, and fungi working together — a living, breathing ecosystem.

Handling & Storage
– Use gloves — it contains lanolin and natural fertiliser (poop).
– Store dry before use — wool is absorbent.
– Keep in its box until needed.
– No expiry date — just nature doing its thing.

Goes Well With
Bokashi Bran – speeds composting under Woolch.
Composting Worms – help integrate Woolch into soil.
Seasonal Bird Mix – encourage more nesting birds in your garden.

The Wiggly Story: Bringing Your Garden to Life.

Nestled in the heart of rural Herefordshire, within The Duchy of Cornwall estate lies Lower Blakemere Farm – the cherished home of Wiggly Wigglers and founder, Heather Gorringe. From its humble beginnings on Heather’s kitchen table over 30 years ago, our small but dedicated team is working hard on a legacy of sustainability and regeneration. Our farm isn’t merely a plot of land; it’s a dynamic hub where we’re aiming to balance food production with biodiversity and since we started our regenerative journey there’s a real focus on improving soil health and sustainability. What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
