What You Get
Everything you need to kick-start real composting. You’ll receive composting worms (Eisenia fetida and Dendrobaena veneta), a coir bedding block to give them a safe starting environment, and 2 kg of Anti-Acid Lime Mix to balance pH and remove odours. Live worms combined with the right conditions mean faster composting from day one.
Why This Works (Simple Science)
Composting worms are surface-dwelling (epigeic) species. They thrive in organic matter, oxygen-rich environments, and microbe-active conditions. As they work, they break down waste faster, concentrate microbes in their castings, improve structure and airflow, and prevent anaerobic (smelly) conditions.
The Lime Mix keeps pH neutral, prevents sour compost, and helps control flies. Together, they turn slow heaps into active, living systems.
Choose Your Size
You can select from Small (around 250 g of worms), Medium (around 500 g), Large (around 1 kg), XL (around 2 kg), or XXL (around 5 kg). As a rule of thumb, use 0.5–1 kg of worms per cubic metre of material. Once established, populations will grow naturally.
How to Use
Place your heap or bin directly on soil rather than concrete. Soak the bedding block and spread a base layer, then add the worms gently on top. Cover with damp compost or cardboard.
Feed in layers using a mix of greens and browns, aiming for roughly two parts browns to one part greens. Keep moisture similar to a wrung-out sponge, add Lime Mix regularly to maintain balance, and turn or fluff the material every 2–4 weeks. Oxygen, moisture, and balance are what drive speed.
What You Can Compost
This system works brilliantly with veg peelings and food waste, grass clippings (mixed with browns), leaves and cardboard, stable bedding and manure, properly mixed chicken litter, and Bokashi-treated waste.
Bokashi Works Brilliantly With This
Pre-treated Bokashi waste breaks down faster, reduces smell, and expands what you can compost. It creates a complete kitchen-to-garden system when paired with worms.
For Horse Owners & Livestock Keepers
Avoid using freshly wormed manure for 3–7 days. Start worms in older, cooled manure, and mix in bedding such as straw or shavings for best results. This creates ideal composting conditions.
Johnson-Su & Regenerative Systems
Add worms after the hot phase (below 30°C). They improve structure and help create fine, finished compost, making them ideal for compost extracts and boosting soil biology. It’s a powerful addition to regenerative systems.
The Results You’ll See
Expect faster breakdown, no bad smells, and dark, crumbly compost. You’ll also see improved soil structure and better plant growth. Worm castings are naturally rich in nutrients (NPK), beneficial microbes, and humic compounds.
