Too Good to Waste Week: Every Scrap Counts, Every Garden Wins

From 16th-23rd August, we're celebrating Too Good to Waste Week – a week dedicated to wasting less, growing more, and giving food scraps a second life.

Here at Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, waste simply isn't part of how we farm.

Everything has a purpose.

Our pigs happily clear the field edges and enjoy leftover grain. Our cattle turn grass seed straw into nutrient-rich manure that feeds next year's crops. Even food waste collected from schools and restaurants around Hereford is transformed with Bokashi before being returned to the land.

It's all part of the same cycle.

The healthier the soil, the healthier the plants. The healthier the plants, the healthier the wildlife, gardens, and food we all depend on.

And the brilliant thing is... you don't need a farm to be part of it.

Every home can make a difference

Wiggly Bokashi Organko Essential Compost Kitchen Waste Bucket - Olive

The UK throws away over 4.7 million tonnes of edible food every year. That's an enormous amount of wasted food, money, water, energy and valuable nutrients that could have been returned to the soil instead.

Whether you've got a large vegetable patch, a small garden, a balcony full of pots or simply a kitchen caddy, you can help close that loop.

Every banana skin, tea bag, carrot peeling and leftover vegetable has the potential to become something wonderful.

Bokashi – the easiest place to start

If you've ever thought composting sounded complicated, Bokashi might just change your mind.

Instead of sending food waste to landfill, Bokashi uses beneficial microbes to ferment almost all your kitchen scraps. You can add cooked food, meat, fish, dairy, fruit and vegetables – making it one of the easiest ways to recycle food waste at home.

Once fermented, your food scraps can be buried in the garden, added to a compost heap or fed into a wormery, where they quickly become food for the soil.

To help more people get started, we're running a special offer throughout August:

🌱 Save £5 on our 5kg Live Bokashi Bran

Our 5kg bag is perfect for regular Bokashi users or anyone ready to make food waste recycling part of everyday life. It's enough to keep your Bokashi bucket working happily for months while helping you reduce waste and build healthier soil.

A simple change in your kitchen can make a lasting difference in your garden.

Let worms do the hard work

Once your food scraps have been fermented—or if you're already collecting fruit and vegetable peelings—a wormery is one of the most rewarding ways to recycle them.

Worms transform everyday kitchen waste into some of the richest natural plant food you can make.

You'll enjoy:

  • Nutrient-rich worm compost that helps plants thrive.

  • Liquid worm feed that's ready to dilute and use around the garden.

  • Healthier, living soil packed with beneficial microbes.

  • Less waste heading to the bin.

They're surprisingly easy to look after, don't smell when managed correctly, and quietly get on with one of nature's most important jobs.

Whether you choose Bokashi, a wormery or both, every food scrap you save helps build healthier soil instead of creating waste.

From kitchen scraps to thriving gardens

One of the things we love most about regenerative farming is that nothing stands alone.

Food becomes compost.

Compost feeds soil.

Healthy soil grows healthy plants.

Healthy plants feed wildlife, birds, insects and people.

It's a simple cycle, but it's one that's worth protecting.

This Too Good to Waste Week, why not join us? Together we can waste less, grow more and show that every scrap really does count.

From all of us at Wiggly Wigglers, thank you for helping us build healthier gardens from the soil up.
