How to Keep Your Wormery Moist – But Not Soggy

Worms love damp, dark places, but too much moisture can cause more harm than good. Here's how to strike the right balance.

Worms Need Moisture – But Not a Swamp
Your worm bin should be as moist as a freshly wrung-out sponge. That means not too dry, and definitely not waterlogged. Using a moisture mat on top of the freshest layer of waste helps to lock in just the right amount of dampness.

Avoiding Common Moisture Mistakes
Never allow your wormery to sit in standing water. Lack of oxygen in waterlogged bins leads to smells, stressed worms, and poor composting results.

Quick Check: If the compost is sticky or pooling at the bottom, it’s time to dry things out!
