We love all our customers. But every now and then someone sends a message that has us buzzing — and Lesley Savage is one of those legends.
Lesley, 76 years young, emailed us this week with a cracking review, some wonderful photos, and a very modest note:
“Sent you a review today, but as I am 76 with a non-tech brain I couldn’t get my head round pasting or uploading (or was it downloading?) so needed time to find something to send… Trust me, you don’t want one of me.”
We respectfully disagree, Lesley. We absolutely do want one of you.
Because what followed was a trio of utterly charming pics showing a robin, a bluetit, and a great tit eating live mealworms right out of Lesley’s hand. Yes, really.
Meet Bob, Bluey, and Tit – three of the feathered frequent flyers at her local nature reserve, and self-declared superfans of “the little blue pot” (that’s Lesley’s mealworm tub, in case you’re wondering).
“Not that I’ve tasted them myself you understand,” she writes,
“but I’m literally mobbed when I appear with the little blue pot.”
We believe her.

Why live mealworms? Why now?
Birds need all the help they can get, especially at this time of year. Whether they’re raising chicks, moulting, or just trying to keep going in a warming, shifting climate — a protein-packed treat like live mealworms is a lifesaver.
They’re not just a snack — they’re a rich source of natural food that mimics what birds would find in the wild. Plus, they wriggle. Which is obviously a bonus if you’re a robin.
Lesley’s little gang clearly agree. Robins are naturally bold, but if you’ve got them eating out of your hand, it means you’re doing something very right.

Feathered joy and human connection
Here at Wiggly HQ in Herefordshire, we bang on about the joy of feeding birds all the time — but this is exactly the kind of magic that happens when you get into the habit.
A few live mealworms, a bit of patience, and suddenly you’ve got your own wildlife documentary playing out on your back step or park bench. It’s free, it’s brilliant, and it makes the world feel a little better.
So to Lesley: thank you. You’ve made us laugh, made us so pleased to be playing our part in supporting nature — and reminded us exactly why we do what we do.
It’s not every day you see a great tit and a bluetit taking food straight from someone’s hand. It takes time, trust, and a pocket full of very wriggly mealworms. But what a connection. What a moment.
