Q: I’ve had my wormery running for a while, but it’s not producing any liquid. What might be wrong?
A: If your wormery isn’t producing liquid (often called worm tea or leachate), it’s usually a sign the moisture balance inside isn’t quite right. Wormeries need a moist but not waterlogged environment to encourage liquid drainage.
Check if the bedding is too dry—worms require damp conditions similar to a wrung-out sponge. Add some water or moist food scraps to increase moisture levels. Conversely, if the wormery is too wet, the liquid may not drain properly or the system might be clogged.
Also, ensure your wormery is on a surface that allows liquid to drain freely. If the tray or holes are blocked, liquid won’t escape. Regularly harvesting worm tea encourages continuous production and keeps your worms healthy.
