At Lower Blakemere Farm, the Pond Tipping project is about restoring an old, neglected farm pond into a thriving ecosystem full of life. Rather than dumping waste, “tipping” here means tipping the balance back in favour of nature. Over three years the team aims to transform the pond into a biodiverse habitat teeming with dragonflies, frogs, ducks and native fish, alongside creatures like bats and bees. It’s a project that blends habitat creation, water quality improvement and community engagement — with a reed bed to filter inflows, marginal plants to support wildlife, and thoughtful cattle access so livestock can drink without damaging the bank.

What makes Pond Tipping special is that you can get involved. It isn’t a conventional fundraiser — it’s a voluntary sponsorship scheme where every contribution goes directly into the project fund. Whether you choose to “tip in” a tree, a fish or a duck raft, the farm team will plant, stock or build at the right time and share stories of your tip coming to life. By helping restore this pond, contributors support cleaner water, richer biodiversity, stronger regenerative farming and a space for families to enjoy fishing, picnics and nature in action.
