Wormery SOS: What to Do When Worms Stop Eating – And Waste Builds Up

If uneaten waste starts piling up, your wormery might be out of balance. Don’t add more food – here’s what to do instead.

Stop Feeding Temporarily

Let the worms catch up. They need the waste to begin breaking down before they can eat it – they don’t have teeth! When you see worms working in the top layer again, you can resume feeding.

Avoid a Smelly Mess

Too much waste rotting in the bin will putrefy, creating bad smells and potentially attracting pests like rats and flies.

Tip: Stay observant – your worms will show you when they’re ready for more.
