Every summer we get messages asking why we occasionally stop sending live mealworms.
The answer is simple.
Our mealworms are alive.
Whilst we have a heatwave, you can still place orders through the Wiggly Wigglers website, but there may be times when we delay dispatch until temperatures become safe for travel.
The challenge isn’t just the weather outside. Delivery vans, warehouses and courier depots can become significantly hotter than the outside temperature, putting live mealworms at risk.
At Wiggly Wigglers we’ve always believed that animal welfare comes first. We’d rather delay an order for a day or two than knowingly send mealworms into conditions that could harm them.
We have temporarily paused LIVE mealworms on Amazon during very hot weather because we have less flexibility over dispatch times there.
If you need a temporary alternative, dried mealworms are an excellent backup. Many experienced bird feeders keep a bag in reserve for exactly this reason.
We’re also working on improved insulation and packaging to help our wrigglers cope better with future heatwaves.
Thank you for understanding.
And remember…
Nobody wants mealworm soup.
