Your worm farm is a mini forest floor, replicating what happens in nature! 🌱 Just like surface earthworms break down fallen leaves in the wild, your composting worms work through your food waste layer by layer, turning it into nutrient-rich worm compost.
🍂 Worms Work Upwards – As you gradually add food scraps, the worms migrate up through the waste, digesting and breaking it down. If they’re just below the surface, it’s a great sign – you can go ahead and add more waste!
💦 The Sump & Worm Tea – The bottom reservoir collects excess liquid, known as worm tea. This is liquid gold for plants! Dilute it 1:10 with water and use it as a natural fertiliser.
📦 The Tray System – Once the bottom tray is full, place the next tray on top. The worms move up through the holes, following the fresh food, leaving behind rich compost. When they reach the top tray, most have vacated the bottom one, making it ready for harvesting! ♻️ Simply empty the compost, pop the tray back on top, and the cycle continues. You can even add an extra tray to expand your system!
🌡 The Moisture Mat – Always place your moisture mat on top of the freshest waste. It helps keep conditions just right for happy worms and efficient composting.
🔍 How Do You Know It’s Working? – Look for worms of different ages – baby worms, juveniles, and adults. Every speck of dark brown material is pure worm compost – an entirely natural process!
