Give your garden hedgehogs the best start in life with Vale’s Hedgehog Food, the only hedgehog food officially used and trusted by Vale Wildlife Hospital, one of the UK’s largest wildlife rescue centres.

Packed with high-quality meat proteins and essential nutrients, these crunchy kibbles are formulated with the correct 2:1 calcium-to-phosphorus ratio — vital for strong bones, healthy spines, and overall wellbeing. They’re safe, natural, and irresistibly tasty — proven to help both wild and rehabilitating hedgehogs thrive.

Whether you’re supporting rescue hedgehogs or welcoming them to your garden, this is the professional choice that works hand-in-hand with nature.

🩺 Vet-Approved & Rescue-Trusted — Used daily at Vale Wildlife Hospital to feed hundreds of sick and injured hedgehogs.
🍗 Nutritionally Balanced — Contains 32% protein, 14% natural oils, and the correct 2:1 calcium-phosphorus ratio.
🦷 Supports Dental Health — Crunchy texture helps clean teeth and strengthen jaw muscles.
🌿 Mimics Natural Diet — Protein-rich formulation replicates a hedgehog’s wild intake of beetles, worms, and grubs.
🌙 Encourages Natural Foraging — Offer a small nightly portion (about 60g) alongside fresh water to supplement, not replace, wild feeding habits.
💚 Safe Alternative to Cat Food — Unlike some pet foods, this mix avoids fish oils, raisins, and additives that can harm hedgehogs.

  • Offer a shallow dish of food in a quiet, sheltered corner of your garden at dusk.
  • Provide fresh water every night (never milk — it causes severe stomach upset).
  • A handful (around 60g) is plenty for one hedgehog; top up as needed.
  • In dry spells or after hibernation, regular feeding can make a life-saving difference.
  • Keep feeding stations clean and protected from cats or badgers if possible.

Wiggly Tip: Use a hedgehog feeding station or a low-roofed shelter to protect food from rain and unwanted visitors.

Here at Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, we’ve seen a real increase in hedgehogs this past year — a hopeful sign that the UK’s favourite garden visitor is making a comeback.
By putting out Hedgehog Food, you’re not just helping individual hogs — you’re supporting wider biodiversity.

Hedgehogs are natural pest controllers, eating slugs, snails, beetles, and caterpillars, making them brilliant allies for gardeners. Every bag you buy helps sustain that balance.

Hedgehogs require a diet high in animal protein and low in carbohydrates — quite different from cats or dogs.
This specialist mix replicates the nutrition of their natural prey while maintaining the correct Ca:P ratio (crucial to prevent metabolic bone disease).

The inclusion of chicken liver meal and brewer’s yeast supports muscle development and gut flora, while yucca extract helps reduce odours and improve digestion.
Consistent feeding improves hedgehog body weight, hibernation success, and survival rates for released rescues.

Feeding hedgehogs at home also contributes to biodiversity recovery and carbon reduction — preventing insecticide use by letting nature do the pest control.

Keep them happy:

  • Provide water every evening — especially in summer.
  • Avoid milk, bread, mealworms, and peanuts (they cause calcium imbalance).
  • Offer cover: leaves, logs, and wild patches for safe nesting.
  • Avoid slug pellets and chemicals that harm invertebrates.

FAQs
How much should I feed?
About 60g per hedgehog per night — a small handful. Adjust if leftovers remain.
Can I feed through winter?
Yes, especially in mild winters — hungry hedgehogs often wake during hibernation.
Is it suitable for young hedgehogs?
Yes — soften the food slightly with water for smaller mouths.
Is cat food safe for hedgehogs?
Some wet meat cat foods are okay in emergencies, but Vale’s Hedgehog Food is safer and nutritionally correct.
Will feeding stop them foraging naturally?
No — hedgehogs will still forage for live prey. This just provides a reliable supplement.

Wiggly Tips:

  • Pop out food just before dusk to avoid attracting daytime birds.
  • Mix a few Berry Suet Pellets for a seasonal energy boost.
  • Combine with I Love Hedgehogs Food for variety.
  • Place a Hedgehog Barn nearby to encourage nesting and overwintering.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
