Each year:

  • Diverts food waste from landfill
  • Reduces methane emissions (far more potent than CO₂)
  • Keeps nutrients in local circulation
  • Reduces reliance on fertilisers

Soil Benefits

  • Improves soil structure
  • Increases water retention
  • Boosts microbial diversity
  • Builds stable humus

At Lower Blakemere Farm, we use worm composting every day.

Our worms help process manure, build humus and improve soil health across the farm.

Your purchase supports:

  • Soil health innovation
  • Wildlife corridors
  • Regenerative farming
  • Community composting projects

Worm compost contains:

  • bacteria
  • fungi
  • enzymes

These interact with plant roots to improve growth and resilience.

Darwin called worms:

“It may be doubted whether there are many other animals which have played so important a part in the history of the world.”

Getting Started:
1️⃣ Rehydrate the coir bedding.
2️⃣ Add your 500 g worms (or redeem voucher).
3️⃣ Cover with the moisture mat and lid.
4️⃣ Let them settle 2–3 days before feeding.
5️⃣ Feed small amounts regularly – they’ll speed up as they multiply.

What They Love: Fruit & veg scraps, banana skins, apple cores, tea bags (plastic-free), coffee grounds, crushed eggshells, paper & cardboard.
Avoid: Too much citrus, onion or garlic; meat, fish or dairy unless pre-Bokashied; oily foods in bulk.

Maintenance Tips:

  • Keep moist (not wet). Mist lightly if dry.
  • Add Lime Mix fortnightly to balance pH.
  • Sprinkle Worm Treat monthly to absorb excess moisture.
  • Fluff compost for airflow and drain liquid weekly.
  • Harvest compost every 6–8 weeks – it’s ready when dark, crumbly and earthy.

Temperature & Placement: 15–25 °C is ideal. Keep indoors or sheltered; avoid direct sun or frost. Use Extra-Thick Moisture Mat in winter.

Educational & Community Use:
Schools use this kit to teach biology and eco-literacy – children love seeing waste turn to soil.
Workplaces use them for staff engagement and zero-waste credentials.

Wiggly Tips:

  • Dilute worm leachate 1 : 10 for houseplants and ornamentals.
  • Brew aerated worm tea from finished compost for vegetables – a living microbial tonic.
  • Replace moisture mats every few months – they’re fully compostable.
  • Pair with a Bokashi Kit to handle all food waste and feed fermented scraps to your worms.

🌱 From Dirt to Living Soil

We’re regenerating our farm from the roots up. Every order you place helps bring back healthy soil, thriving wildlife, and renewed hope.

👉 Follow our journey ➜

  • The Tray System

    • Two stackable trays sit above a liquid reservoir
    • Start in the bottom tray with bedding and worms
    • Add food to the tray above
    • Worms migrate upwards through the holes to fresh food
    • Finished compost is left behind below

👉 No digging, no sorting worms — just lift and harvest

  • More Surface Area = Better Composting

    Worms work at the surface.

    This system:

    • spreads food out
    • improves airflow
    • keeps conditions aerobic

    👉 Faster, cleaner composting

  • Continuous Flow = Continuous Compost

    As worms move up:

    • compost builds below
    • you harvest without disturbing them

Add extra trays to increase capacity and keep going.

💚 Wiggly Tip: Surface area matters more than depth — trays make worms more efficient.

Wormery Rescue Kit – Fix Smelly, Soggy or Slow Wormeries Fast

Your Composting Crew

  • Eisenia fetida (Tiger Worms)
  • Dendrobaena veneta

Surface-feeding worms that thrive in organic waste.

They eat up to half their body weight daily and multiply quickly.

Deep-burrowing earthworms don’t work in this system — that’s why Wiggly worms are the right ones.
