High-Energy Protein Source for Garden Birds — Responsibly Sourced & Tested for Aflatoxins

Peanuts are one of nature’s little powerhouses — packed with fat, protein and calories that help garden birds survive harsh weather and raise strong chicks.
But here’s the truth: not all peanuts are created equal. Ours are premium-grade, aflatoxin-tested and responsibly sourced, so you can feed safely and confidently.

Perfect for tits, nuthatches, woodpeckers and great spotted starlings, these peanuts are best used in a dedicated peanut feeder for safety. And while they’re brilliant in winter, they’re not the whole story — a varied seed mix gives birds the balanced diet they really need.

Key Benefits

  • High in protein and natural oils – vital fuel for winter and breeding seasons.
  • Aflatoxin-tested – every batch is screened to protect birds from harmful mould toxins.
  • Responsibly sourced – grown in regions where water use and deforestation are controlled.
  • Excellent cold-weather feed – high fat content helps birds maintain body heat.
  • Perfect for tit species, woodpeckers and nuthatches – strong beaks love peanuts!
  • Best used in a mesh peanut feeder – prevents choking hazards for fledglings.
  • Packed on our Herefordshire farm – mixed with care, zero filler, zero fuss.

(All our feeds are packed in small batches for freshness. May contain traces of other nuts. Not for human consumption.)

Who You’ll Attract
Peanuts attract tits, nuthatches, woodpeckers, starlings and jays — the acrobats of the bird world.
You might even spot the odd squirrel joining in (we admire their enthusiasm, if not their manners).

How to Feed Them

  • Always use a mesh peanut feeder – never put whole peanuts out loose.
(Small birds and fledglings can choke on whole nuts.)
  • Hang feeders in partial shade – this slows spoilage and keeps oils stable.
  • Top up little and often – fresh is best.
  • Avoid feeding peanuts in hot weather – oils can turn rancid in summer.

Best Served In
Mesh Peanut Feeder: Keeps nuts safe and accessible for birds with strong bills.
Ground Feeder (Crushed Only): If you must feed on the ground, use chopped peanuts.
🚫 Avoid Open Tables with Whole Peanuts: Risk of choking for young or small birds.

Each Ingredient Plays Its Part

  • Whole Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea): High-energy legume (not technically a nut!) providing essential fats, protein, and amino acids for feather and muscle development.

Wiggly Tip:
Buy smaller bags through spring and summer — peanuts can spoil quickly in heat. If in doubt, smell them: if they smell musty, compost them. Your worms won’t mind!

Our Farm-Packed Approach
We don’t grow peanuts in Herefordshire (even Phil hasn’t cracked that one yet), but we do insist on responsible sourcing.
Our peanuts come from growers who avoid deforestation and use sustainable water practices. Each batch is tested for aflatoxin, a naturally occurring fungus that can harm birds. Only safe peanuts make it into a Wiggly bag.

Sustainability & Packaging

  • Small bags: compostable paper, simple and recyclable.
  • 12.55 kg sacks: reusable woven polypropylene, returnable for re-use.
  • No outer packaging on large sacks: saves waste and transport miles.

Wiggly Tip:
Reuse your woven sack for storing kindling, compost, or as Phil once did — his fishing gear (don’t ask).

Nature Benefits
Peanuts are especially valuable during cold snaps and the breeding season — providing dense energy when natural food is scarce.
They support muscle repair, feather growth and the demands of fledglings — but remember: birds need more than just peanuts. Mixing in seed blends, suet and insects supports a broader range of species and a healthier diet.

Good for You Too
Few things beat the sight of a great tit hanging upside down for a peanut prize. It’s the perfect five-minute pause in your day — a reminder that life’s better when you look up from your phone.

Wiggly Tip:
Alternate between peanuts and seed mixes — it keeps birds coming back for variety and encourages more species to visit.

Storage & Freshness

  • Store in a cool, dry, sealed container.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight — oils degrade fast.
  • In warm weather, buy smaller bags more often.
  • Dispose of any mouldy or damp peanuts responsibly (never feed them).

Wiggly Tip:
Mix a handful of crushed peanuts into your seed mix during winter — it boosts calories without overdoing it.

Goes Well With

  • Huskless Mix – for clean, balanced feeding year-round.
  • British Suet Balls – essential fat and energy boost.
  • Softbill Mix – for robins and blackbirds that can’t tackle nuts.

Quick FAQs
Are peanuts safe for birds?
Yes — as long as they’re aflatoxin-tested and fed from a mesh feeder.

Why not loose peanuts?
Small birds and fledglings can choke on whole nuts.

Why not feed peanuts year-round?
They’re excellent in cold weather, but too rich in summer. Use seed mixes then.

Can humans eat these peanuts?
No — they’re for birds only.

The Science Behind the Seed vs. Peanut Debate

Peanuts are energy-dense, containing around 600 kcal per 100g, with a fat content of roughly 50%, and about 25% protein — brilliant fuel for birds needing quick calories.
But they lack the variety of minerals, fibre and natural diversity found in seed mixes.

A mixed seed diet (like our British or Huskless blends) mimics natural foraging: small grains for sparrows, oil-rich sunflower hearts for tits, oats for softbills.
By alternating seed and peanuts, you feed both the generalists and the specialists — and keep your feeders lively.

Wiggly Tip:
Think of peanuts as “energy bars” and seed mixes as “balanced meals.” Every bird needs both — just not all the time!

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
