Wiggly Tip: If you donโ€™t see activity, try moving it to a sunnier or more flower-rich spot โ€” insects will soon find their way.

At Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, weโ€™ve spent decades working to balance farming with wildlife. Our regenerative approach encourages pollinators, builds soil health, and supports biodiversity across our fields and hedgerows.

Weโ€™re proud to see thriving populations of solitary bees, honeybees, dung beetles, and birds on the farm โ€” all vital to soil and crop health. Every insect block you install extends that same principle to your own garden, creating more connected habitats for pollinators and beneficial bugs to thrive.

When you choose Wiggly Wigglers, youโ€™re not just buying a garden accessory โ€” youโ€™re joining a movement to make British gardens more alive, sustainable, and soil-friendly.

๐Ÿ Pollination Power:
Solitary bees are responsible for pollinating up to one-third of UK food crops, visiting far more flowers per day than honeybees. Their work directly boosts fruit set and vegetable yields.

๐Ÿฆ‹ Natural Pest Control:
Ladybirds, lacewings, and hoverfly larvae can consume hundreds of aphids each week, keeping roses, beans, and brassicas naturally pest-free.

๐ŸŒ Biodiversity & Balance:
Encouraging a mix of pollinators, decomposers, and predators strengthens your gardenโ€™s ecosystem, improves soil structure, and reduces dependence on chemicals.

By simply adding a well-placed insect block, you help close the loop between pollination, pest control, and plant health โ€” a tiny home that makes a huge impact.

  1. Mount securely with screws or place on a stable ledge.
  2. Avoid pesticide use nearby โ€” it harms the very insects you want to help.
  3. Leave it out year-round; bees and other insects overwinter inside.
  4. Inspect in late autumn and gently clean any debris if holes become blocked.

Wiggly Tips:

  • Add a shallow dish of water with pebbles for bees to drink safely.
  • Plant native flowers like foxglove, scabious, and wild marjoram nearby.
  • Leave small patches of bare soil for ground-nesting bees.
  • Mix in logs, stones, or leaf piles for extra hiding spots.

FAQs

Will it attract bees that sting?
No โ€” solitary bees are docile, non-aggressive, and safe for children and pets.

When will insects move in?
Youโ€™ll see activity from early spring through summer as bees seal holes and ladybirds shelter inside.

Do I need to clean it?
Not usually. A quick check once a year in late autumn is plenty.

Can I use it on a balcony or patio?
Yes! Itโ€™s compact enough for balconies, courtyards, and even windowsills.

How long will it last?
Several years โ€” itโ€™s made from durable, weatherproof FSC wood.

The Wiggly Story: Bringing Your Garden to Life.

Nestled in the heart of rural Herefordshire, within The Duchy of Cornwall estate lies Lower Blakemere Farm โ€“ the cherished home of Wiggly Wigglers and founder, Heather Gorringe. From its humble beginnings on Heatherโ€™s kitchen table over 30 years ago, our small but dedicated team is working hard on a legacy of sustainability and regeneration. Our farm isnโ€™t merely a plot of land; itโ€™s a dynamic hub where weโ€™re aiming to balance food production with biodiversity and since we started our regenerative journey thereโ€™s a real focus on improving soil health and sustainability. What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition โ€” lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and Iโ€™ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldnโ€™t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, Iโ€™ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds โ€” robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell itโ€™s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. Itโ€™s become my go-to source for bird feed!
