Do composting worms go 'to sleep' in the winter?
In the Winter they do slow down a bit, especially if it’s cooler or the bin is a little on the wet side, so things don’t disappear quite as fast.
A few tips to keep things moving:
• It’s absolutely fine to add more food as long as you can see those black flecks and the worms near the surface.
• Give the surface few inches a gentle fluff — more air will help them speed up.
• It does look a bit wet, so keep the wormery under good shelter and mix in plenty of torn, dry cardboard or paper to balance the moisture.
• If it feels sludgy, add a bit more cardboard until it’s nice and crumbly again.
