Save 10% on Fresh, High-Oil Niger Seed for Finches & Siskins — Packed in Small Batches on Our Herefordshire Farm

Niger (Nyjer) Seed is the favourite of finches and siskins, but freshness is everything. The natural oils that make it nutritious can lose quality fast if stored too long — that’s why our Subscribe & Save option delivers smaller, fresher bags automatically, with 10% off every order.

You’ll reduce waste, keep your seed at its best, and ensure your birds are always well-fed.

Who You’ll Attract
Niger Seed brings a flash of colour and song to your garden — goldfinches, siskins, redpolls, and greenfinches can’t resist it.

How to Feed Them

  • Use a specialist Niger Seed feeder with small holes to stop waste.
  • Hang the feeder near shrubs or hedges where birds can perch safely.
  • Top up regularly — finches feed little and often.
  • Keep it clean and dry to prevent mould.

Wiggly Tip:
If you’ve got space, plant teasels and sunflowers alongside your feeders. They’re natural sources of seed for goldfinches — beautiful for you, brilliant for them, and zero air miles!

We don’t grow Niger Seed here (even Phil can’t get tropical daisies going in Blakemere), but we only pack clean, fully tested batches from reliable farms abroad.
These crops are grown mainly for their oil, with bird seed as a valuable by-product — a clever, sustainable use of what might otherwise go to waste.

Every bag is heat-treated to prevent sprouting, screened for purity, and packed fresh on our Herefordshire farm.

Packaging

  • Paper bags for smaller quantities – compostable and recyclable.
  • Large 12.55kg sacks – reusable woven polypropylene, returnable for re-use.

Wiggly Tip:
Store in a cool, dry tub and use within a few months to keep the oils fresh and birds keen.

Niger Seed supports specialist species — especially goldfinches — which rely on small, oily seeds to survive when natural sources are scarce. Feeding them through winter keeps populations healthy and your garden lively.

And it’s good for you too. There’s something deeply cheering about a flock of goldfinches on a sunny morning — it’s like having your own brass band with wings.

Wiggly Tip:
Mix a few teasels or echinacea into your borders. They’ll feed the same finches later in the year — and look great doing it.

Storage & Freshness

  • Store in a cool, dry, sealed container.
  • Keep feeders shaded and dry.
  • Clean feeders weekly to prevent clumping.
  • Don’t overfill — Niger Seed goes further than you think.

Goes Well With

  • British Suet Balls – fat-rich for mixed species in winter.
  • Huskless Mix – clean, easy, and complementary feeding.
  • Softbill Mix – for robins and blackbirds while finches feed above.

Quick FAQs
Is Niger Seed British-grown?
No — it’s imported from tropical regions.
Can I grow it myself?
Not easily — our climate’s too cool. Try teasels, sunflowers, or echinacea instead.
Will it germinate under my feeder?
No — it’s heat-treated, so it won’t sprout.

The Wiggly Story: Bringing Your Garden to Life.

Nestled in the heart of rural Herefordshire, within The Duchy of Cornwall estate lies Lower Blakemere Farm – the cherished home of Wiggly Wigglers and founder, Heather Gorringe. From its humble beginnings on Heather’s kitchen table over 30 years ago, our small but dedicated team is working hard on a legacy of sustainability and regeneration. Our farm isn’t merely a plot of land; it’s a dynamic hub where we’re aiming to balance food production with biodiversity and since we started our regenerative journey there’s a real focus on improving soil health and sustainability. Beyond our own endeavours, we’re passionate about sharing best practices and developing products designed to Bring your Garden to life.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
