At Wiggly Wigglers, we pride ourselves on creating birdseed that supports local farming and sustainability. Some of the ingredients are grown on our farm, others come from trusted farmer friends, and the rest are sourced from a seed merchant with whom we’ve partnered for over 30 years. Every order is mixed and bagged to order here on the farm for freshness: smaller sizes are packed in plain paper bags, which are compostable and perfect for your garden or wormery, while our 12.55kg sizes are delivered in reusable, recyclable woven polyprop bags. Niger Seed is a favourite among small, colourful birds like goldfinches and siskins. This tiny seed is high in oil, making it perfect for birds with small beaks and high metabolisms.

Suitable Feeder: Due to its fine nature, niger seed is best used in specialised niger seed feeders rather than conventional feeders (usually bright yellow and with much smaller holes sot that the seed doesn’t all fall out).  We stock a variety of niger seed feeders that are perfectly designed for this purpose.

Tip for Winter: To attract goldfinches during the winter months, consider leaving teasel heads out in your garden. Goldfinches love the seeds from teasel heads, and they provide a natural, additional food source that complements their diet.

• Growing Native Plants: We cultivate a variety of native plants to create a rich habitat for local wildlife. This practice enhances biodiversity and supports the ecosystem.
• Using Compost: Enriching our soil with natural compost boosts fertility and promotes healthy plant growth, essential for high-quality birdseed production.
• Making Compost Teas: We use nutrient-rich compost teas to naturally feed our crops and improve soil health.
• Mob Grazing Cattle: Implementing mob grazing techniques mimics natural grazing patterns, improving soil health and plant diversity.
• Planting Cover Crops: These crops protect and nourish the soil, prevent erosion, and enhance biodiversity.
• Stopping the Use of Our Plough: Reducing soil disturbance helps maintain soil integrity and supports a thriving ecosystem.

By growing and processing our birdseed on-site, we reduce our carbon footprint and ensure the highest quality product. This process not only supports local wildlife but also provides jobs and sustains our farming community. Thanks to these efforts, a BTO survey identified 49 species of birds on our farm—an amazing result that shows the positive impact of our practices.
