Why live mealworms matter
During spring and summer, parent birds need protein-rich insects to feed their chicks.
Live mealworms provide the moisture and nutrition young birds need to grow strong and survive.
Feeding them is one of the simplest ways to support garden wildlife.

Storage & Freshness

  • Store in a cool, dark place (around 8–10°C).
  • Use a Tupperware or shallow container with small air holes.
  • Add bran or porridge oats for bedding.
  • Add a few carrot or potato slices for moisture.
  • Clean out uneaten vegetables every few days.

HOW MANY MEALWORMS DO I NEED?

Not sure which size to choose?
It really depends on how many birds visit your garden.

120g – Try them out
Perfect if you want to see which birds discover them first. Robins, blackbirds and wrens usually appear quickly.

250g – A few visiting birds
Ideal for a garden with a regular robin or two and the occasional blackbird stopping by.

500g – Most popular
Great for regular feeding and gardens where several birds visit each day.

1kg – Busy bird garden
Best if you have lots of visitors or enjoy feeding birds every morning and evening.

Wiggly tip
Start with a small dish and feed little and often. Birds quickly learn where the mealworms appear and will soon be waiting for you.

Most customers choose the 500g pack for regular feeding.

What Happens When You Start Feeding Mealworms

The first time you put mealworms out you may only see one or two birds.

But birds learn quickly.

Robins, blackbirds and thrushes soon recognise the routine and will often be waiting for you when you come into the garden.

Many Wiggly Wigglers customers tell us their robins now follow them around the garden or sit on the fence waiting for their daily mealworms.

Once birds discover them, mealworms often become the most popular food in the garden.

Wiggly Tip: Keep a small container by the kitchen door. Robins quickly learn your routine and will often wait for you each morning.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
