The Green Johanna 330 L Hot Composter is your all-in-one solution for transforming every bit of household and garden waste — from cooked food and dairy to grass cuttings and prunings — into rich, dark compost in just a few months.

Designed in Sweden, made in the UK from 100 % recycled plastic, this robust, insulated bin works all year round, even through freezing winters. Its clever airflow system keeps the composting process aerobic and odour-free while hitting the high temperatures (50–70 °C) needed to break waste down quickly and safely.

Now available in two options:

  • Green Johanna Hot Composter (Standard)

  • Green Johanna Hot Composter + Complete Rot Bundle – includes a 12.5 kg bag of our natural compost accelerator to turbo-charge decomposition, balance nitrogen, and keep your heap in perfect condition.

And for cold-weather composting, the Green Johanna Winter Jacket is available separately — a fitted insulation layer that helps maintain optimum heat when outdoor temperatures drop below 10 °C. Highly recommended for year-round performance.

  1. Site it wisely: Place on soil, grass, or gravel in a shaded, sheltered position (avoid paving).
  2. Start with browns: Add 10–15 cm (4–6 in) of coarse carbon material — twigs, shredded cardboard, or straw.
  3. Add greens: For every two buckets of kitchen or garden waste, add one bucket of browns.
  4. Aerate: Use the free aerator stick every 1–2 weeks to keep oxygen flowing.
  5. Use Bokashi waste: Add fermented kitchen scraps from your Bokashi Kit for faster composting.
  6. Regulate airflow: Twist the lid to adjust ventilation — closed in winter, open in summer.
  7. Harvest: Compost is ready after roughly 4–6 months; remove it via the two sliding hatches.

Wiggly Tip: Sprinkle a few handfuls of Complete Rot with each fresh layer of grass or kitchen waste — it balances nitrogen, boosts microbes, and keeps the heap aerobic.

At Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire, we use everything from Bokashi systems to hot composting to recycle organic matter back into our soils.
Our Green Johanna + Complete Rot Bundle mirrors that same regenerative cycle: waste becomes compost, compost feeds the soil, and the soil sustains life.

By composting at home, you’re reducing methane emissions, cutting food waste, and building healthier, carbon-rich soil — all from your own back garden.

🌡️ Thermophilic Microbes: Work at 50–70 °C for rapid breakdown and sanitised compost.
⚖️ Balanced Carbon/Nitrogen Ratio: Ideal at 25–30 : 1 — mix browns and greens accordingly.
💨 Aerobic Conditions: Oxygen prevents odours and methane, maintaining sweet-smelling compost.
💧 Moisture Control: Keep contents like a wrung-out sponge — add dry material if too wet.
🌍 Climate Benefit: Hot composting one household’s food waste can save over 400 kg CO₂e annually.

✅ Add Bokashi-fermented food waste weekly for a microbial head start.
✅ Fit the Green Johanna Winter Jacket in cold weather to retain internal heat.
✅ Alternate wet greens with dry browns to keep airflow open.
✅ Check internal heat monthly with a compost thermometer.
✅ Empty compost twice yearly — spring and autumn — for the best results.

Wiggly Tip: During summer, sprinkle Lime Mix occasionally to maintain neutral pH and deter flies.

What our customers say

Brilliant live worms and great service! I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
