Why Choose the Bokashi Organko Essential Grey Kit?
The Bokashi Organko Essential Grey Value Pack is the perfect solution for modern composting, offering a sleek design that blends seamlessly into any kitchen or outdoor area. With two bins, you’ll have a continuous composting system – fill one while the other ferments, so there’s no downtime in managing your waste.
Each bin holds 16 litres of kitchen waste, roughly 7kg per bin, making this kit ideal for households generating regular food scraps. Whether it’s veggie peelings, meat, dairy, or even small bones, these air-tight bins are designed to handle it all.
The included stand not only keeps the bins stable but also raises them, making it easier to drain the bokashi tea without mess. Plus, the bins are made from post-consumer recycled plastics, supporting sustainable production while delivering exceptional durability.
Why Bokashi Composting is Essential:
The average UK household generates over 200kg of kitchen waste annually, most of which ends up in landfill, emitting harmful methane gas. Bokashi composting offers a sustainable alternative that benefits your garden, your wallet, and the planet:
Close the Waste Loop: Turn your kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost rather than discarding them.
Improve Soil Health: Fermented Bokashi waste is a soil superfood, packed with nutrients and beneficial microbes that enhance soil structure, boost microbial life, and improve water retention.
Reduce Methane Emissions: Divert food waste from landfill to prevent the production of methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
Taking responsibility for your kitchen waste at home means making a meaningful contribution to a healthier environment while creating something incredible for your garden.
The Science of Bokashi Composting:
Bokashi composting is powered by Effective Microorganisms (EM), a blend of beneficial bacteria and yeasts developed by Dr Teruo Higa in the 1980s. Widely used in Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, and France, this method ensures quick, efficient composting by fermenting waste in an air-tight environment.
Lactic Acid Bacteria: Suppress odours and harmful bacteria while breaking down organic material.
Yeasts: Improve nutrient availability by breaking down carbohydrates and sugars.
Photosynthetic Bacteria: Enhance soil health by synthesising nutrients and amino acids that support plant growth.
This innovative anaerobic process retains nutrients that traditional composting methods lose, creating a powerful soil amendment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
How the Bokashi Organko Essential Grey Kit Works:
Add Food Waste: Layer your kitchen scraps, from fruit peelings to fish bones, into the Bokashi bin.
Sprinkle Bokashi Bran: Add 2–3 tablespoons of Bokashi Active Bran to cover each layer.
Compact and Seal: Use the compactor tool to press the waste down, removing air, then seal the lid tightly.
Ferment: Allow the waste to ferment for 10–14 days, draining bokashi tea every 2–3 days.
Use or Bury: Once fermented, bury the waste in soil or add it to your compost heap, where it will fully decompose into nutrient-rich organic matter within weeks.
What Makes This Kit Stand Out?
Fast Results: Fermentation takes only 10–14 days, with no rotting or unpleasant odours.
Compact and Durable: The 16-litre bins are perfectly sized for households while being sturdy enough for indoor or outdoor use.
Eco-Friendly Materials: Made from post-consumer recycled plastic, reducing waste and supporting sustainable production.
Bokashi Tea: A byproduct of the process, bokashi tea can be diluted to create a potent liquid fertiliser or used undiluted to deodorise and clean drains.
FAQs:
How long does the process take? Bokashi composting is much faster than traditional methods, taking just 10–14 days for fermentation. Once buried in soil, the waste decomposes fully within weeks, depending on soil conditions.
What does the fermented waste look like? The waste will look softened and slightly pickled, with no rotting or unpleasant smells. Once buried, it transforms into rich, dark organic matter, perfect for your garden.
Why are two bins recommended? Two bins create a continuous composting system, allowing you to fill one while the other ferments. This ensures you always have a place for your kitchen waste.
Can Bokashi waste be used in a compost heap? Yes! Fermented Bokashi waste inoculates your compost heap with beneficial microbes, speeding up decomposition, balancing the pH, and improving nutrient retention for higher-quality compost.
How often should I drain bokashi tea? Every 2–3 days is ideal. Dilute it for use as a liquid fertiliser or pour it undiluted down drains to deodorise and prevent blockages.

Brilliant live worms and great service!
I ordered a batch of live composting worms for my new wormery, and they arrived in perfect condition — lively, healthy, and ready to get to work straight away. The packaging was eco-friendly, and the team even included a little guide on how to settle them in. My kitchen scraps are disappearing fast, and I’ve already started harvesting my first bit of worm compost. Couldn’t be happier!

Fantastic bokashi composting advice
As a complete beginner to bokashi composting, I really appreciated how helpful the team were. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me simple, clear instructions to get started. The bokashi bran is top quality and smells fresh and pleasant. After just a few weeks, I’ve turned my kitchen waste into brilliant compost-ready material with no odour or mess. Highly recommended!

Top-notch British birdseed mix
The British birdseed from Wigglys is superb. It attracts a lovely variety of garden birds — robins, finches, and even a pair of goldfinches have started visiting regularly. You can tell it’s a quality mix with no fillers or dust. Delivery was quick, and everything was packaged sustainably. It’s become my go-to source for bird feed!
I'm really happy with my Bokashi Bin package. Too early to make any judgement on the long term success but so far so good. I've half fulled the first bucket an there's no horrible smell or signs of rotting as opposed to fermenting so I'm hopeful of a good outcome

So far, so good
The bins are good quality and easy to set up. I'm almost on to starting a third batch and my first is now in the garden. Too early to say how the end product works out. My only critical comment is that I feel that it would be better if each bin had its own base. I can see that they could stack but I'm not confident about the weight of the nearly full bin on the resting bin and as we have ours on the utility work top it's rather heavy and too high up when stacked. I'd much prefer to have both on a stand with their own drain cup so that wherever the pickling bin is stored it is self contained.
