Helping Baby Birds

1. Baby Birds Need Water

Baby birds in particular need water because they cannot regulate their body temperature without it. They require access to clean fresh water at all times. As soon as a young bird finds its first meal, it begins to drink. However, once it has consumed enough liquid, it stops drinking entirely until it needs to eat again. Therefore, ensure that there is always fresh drinking water nearby. This will help prevent dehydration and allow the mother bird to bond with her baby through feeding.

2. Provide Nesting Material

Nesting material is something that provides both protection from predators and a place for a baby bird to call home. A nest box or an artificial tree branch lined with soft feathers may be sufficient but it should be located near a source of clean water. Bird parents will often return to the nest box or container daily to check on the baby bird and remove any eggs that might have been laid.

3. Reduce Stress Levels

If you notice that your baby birds are stressed, they may seek comfort by huddling together, fluffing up their feathers, and covering themselves with leaves in order to hide from danger. You can reduce stress levels by ensuring that there is no loud noise around the house. This will only serve to frighten the baby birds, which could result in their death.

4. Check on the Baby Birds Daily

It is important to remember that baby birds must be fed every day. Even though they may be hiding under a bush, take the time to look after them properly. When checking on baby birds, look for signs of injury. If you see anything wrong, contact a local vet immediately so that he or she can provide medical assistance.
