Water for Your Garden Birds

It's essential that your birds have access to water even if a cold bath would fill us with absolute horror :) They need a drink of course, but also a bath helps keep their feathers in tip top condition.

One key point to make is not to add any salt to your birdbath to keep the water from freezing. Whilst it is used on roads and paths salt is really dangerous for garden birds so must be avoided at all cost. It's not easy to keep your birdbath from freezing over in cold weather you could try using a twig or two to float on the water and break the surface, but really the only way is to top up with slightly warm water and keep an eye on it as much as you can.
