Waxworms (Galleria mellonella) are the larvae of the Greater Wax Moth and get their name because they are most commonly found in honeycombs of beeswax. Waxworms colour and soft skin make them really appealing to insectivorous birds.

They are a great all year round bird food and are especially valuable in the breeding season. Their soft skin that makes them easily digestible, which means they are a particularly valuable bird food source to chicks when on the nest providing nutrition and moisture to help them grow and develop ready to fly the nest :)
