Happy as Pigs in Muck :)

Our Wiggly Piggy Bank projectThe PIGS have got to work! Look at them go – after just a few days they are mooting and having a great time on the bank – hoping they will move into the bramble department as the weeks go on.
Anyway, here’s a few of the environmental benefits of the pigs clearing the brambles and helping us to convert it into woodland grazing…

  1. Biodiversity Conservation: As Tamworth pigs selectively clear the ground, they create an environment conducive to the growth of native plant species, which supports local wildlife, insects, and birds. Restoring biodiversity is vital for a healthy and resilient ecosystem.
  2. Carbon Sequestration: By enabling the growth of trees and vegetation, Tamworth pigs contribute to carbon sequestration, capturing atmospheric carbon dioxide and storing it in the form of plant biomass. This aids in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
  3. Water Quality Improvement: Healthy woodland grazing with diverse vegetation act as natural filters, purifying water and preventing erosion. The efforts of Tamworth pigs contribute to maintaining the ecological balance of these delicate ecosystems.
