Bats like to fidget and change their position when they’re roosting in the day, in much the same way that we move about in our sleep, so putting two boxes next to one another, on either side of a corner, or three around the trunk of a large tree is ideal. It’s worth knowing that it’s an offence to disturb bat roosts and that they are much more likely to be colonised if not interfered with.

Bat Box

• Place your bat box facing south to keep the bats nice and warm during the day.

• Place your box at least 2.5 metres high on a wall or tree. The corner of your house is often a great place.

• Bats will use these boxes for their summer roosts and should be left completely undisturbed at all times.
