Ah, the effort employed by feeder manufacturers to keep squirrels at bay. This Canadian system is simpler than most as it works without motors or batteries. Instead the perches are mounted on a spring: when a heavy creature such as a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically pushes the perch down, closing the seed ports. Squirrels, and large birds, are foiled without being harmed in any way.

Available in three sizes, and the middle size is also available as a niger seed feeder to attract finches.

ps Being Canadian the box helpfully points out that the feeder is not proof against bears. We're not sure if this will color your buying decision...

This is an excellent feeder! Review by Rachael Brooks
Review
This is an excellent feeder! We received this as a Christmas present last year and it has been our most successful feeder to date. Watching the odd squirrel try to eat the seeds is most entertaining. They always retire, defeated. It is also easy to fill (good job, the birds are getting through a whole feeder full in two or three days) and to take apart to clean.
This really works Review by Harry Goldingay

This really works. Squirrels cant get into it. Only downside is if weather is very wet the feed gets wet around the feed tray and clogs up the flow of feed. But it is easy enough to clean and does not happen often.
It's also a doddle to take apart and clean Review by Sarah Dassa

I was looking forward months of enjoyment watching the squirrels trying to get to the seed/destroy the feeder but it must have frightened the life out of them as they won't go near it! No chew marks to be seen. It's also a doddle to take apart and clean - no fiddly screws. I agree the holes need a de-clog occasionally and also, with the hanging cord, it is quite sizeable (I bought the medium). Overall, though, it is the only squirrel-proof bird feeder I have tried (and I've had a few!)
It works - even in London Review by Linda

It works - even in London, where the squirrels have worked out every trick there is. Not the prettiest feeder in the world, but definitely a winner.
