Autumn Birdfeeding

Whilst feeding your birds throughout the Winter will help them the most if you are able to feed all year round it has a really positive knock on effect as you will give them a better chance of surviving food shortages whenever they happen. Research has also proven that garden bird feeding really helps the survival rate of fledglings, and please don't be put off if you have a cat - better to feed the birds than not - even if Moggy has an occasional murder! (By the way if you can keep your cat in early morning this is MUCH less likely to happen).

Autumn feeding is really important especially when we have cold snaps which can catch the birds out as they try and maintain their fat reserves to survive the frosty nights. As with all of us breakfast is the most important meal of the day for a bird who has dealt with a cold night out on the tiles so try and ensure you have high energy food and clean water out every day.

High energy foods include seeds such as sunflowers and fats such as suet blocks and pellets so it's a good idea to stock up now. *Handy hint - if you buy birdseed in our bag sizes of 12.55kg you will avoid paying 20% VAT as well which is always a plus.

To avoid the chance of spreading disease or attracting vermin never allow uneaten food to accumulate around the feeders, and if possible once you establish a feeding routine try and keep to it as the most important thing about feeding birds is reliability.
