The speed of composting is directly related to the number of worms you have in your wormery. In time, your worms will breed to give you more composting power, but if you want the fastest start possible this is the kit for you.
Our worms are despatched in special packaging to ensure they reach you in top condition but they will need to be transferred into bedding in the kit within 2 to 3 days. So, if the kit is being sent as a gift or will not be set-up on arrival please order it with a voucher, this can then be redeemed when the kit is ready for its worms.
Contains: Can-O-Worms housing, bedding block, 1kg native composting worms (approximately 1800 worms), 2kg Lime Mix, 2kg Worm Treat, 1 Moisture Mat and Instruction booklet. Plus: a copy of the bestselling book 'Worms Eat MY Garbage' by Mary Applehof.

I like my wormery so much I have just bought another one, when I bought my first one a tray had been slightly damaged in transit, I explained this and the staff member I spoke to on the phone sent me a replacement no quibble. I have had my C.O.W for six months now and although things have slowed down a bit during the cold spell my worms seem to be thriving, they are in the shed covered in an old quilt which seems to keep them frost free, in Notts. we have a green bin for waste and I only use it rarely now. A Can of Worms is a great idea for any household takes very little upkeep with great returns of worm tea and great compost, my brother in law keeps approaching me for worms for fishing but I wont let my little workers go. Many thanks to all at wiggly wigglers for great service, Dave

I was given my Can o Worms for my birthday in April 08. The first lot of worms were not a healthy lot and most were dead on arrival. However, the very friendly folk at Wiggly Wigglers dispatched a new lot very quickly and I've had no trouble since then. The first year, there were a lot of fruit flies and ants. The ants were cured by putting the legs in tubs of water. The fruit flies were not so easy. I tried hoovering them and putting up sticky fly catchers to no avail. This year I used DE powder which has solved the problem. I now need to get a rain cover and some more mats - the worms seem to enjoy burrowing into the mats and they degrade quite quickly. The worm wee has helped me produce runner beans, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers all in pots as I only have a very small back garden. I love my worms!

I bought this product in March last year for my husband’s birthday (I have a great shot of him in his suit putting the worms in!!!)
This weekend we put our first tray of compost into our veg patch and my containers. It looks great. We put the compost layer on the top for a day and left it open for 30 minuets and most of the worms went down but we did have to go through it and get the stragglers out and put them back in!
Will update later with how our veggies get on. We had lots of plant food over the year which has gone into the garden. I keep the tap open so the food just drains off and the worms don’t drown.
Rain cap is a must if its not sheltered.
We put the cow near our bins in the summer because of the flies but in the winter I moved it to out side the utility room for protection.
Also I found that the ants got in but we put small ‘take away’ plastic boxes with water in under each leg and this stopped the ants within hours.
They love the left over coffee grains and in the summer the moisture mats are a must. I am going to try the DE this summer and see if it helps with the flies.

I've just put my worms back outside after being in the garage over winter snug in old cylinder insulator. I cleaned each tray and found the bottom one to be rather soggy although the whole three layers are teaming with worms. The two bottom trays are almost ready for harvesting but I find the worms don't move up through the trays as the orignal instructions said. I have already had two trays of compost and loads of wormiliser since i set up last Feb 2008. We have reduced our black bin to a half size one and direct all fresh veg waste to the worms. I love it!!!

We've had a Wiggly Can-O-Worms for just over a year and it's now up and running very well indeed. It did take about nine months to do a full cycle of three trays, but then with two people we don't produce that much household waste. The resulting compost is fab and our patio container plants love the 'worm pee'. The biggest lesson I've learned is to follow the friendly Wiggly instructions properly and keep the right balance between green and brown waste.
Our happy worms have survived the summer droughts, deluges and the recent 'snow event' without much ado (the rain cap helps!). They eat up all our shredded junk mail, old receipts and bank statements etc - can't get much more security conscious than that.
You can make your own wormery but these Can-O-Worms make life a great deal easier and these packs are the best way to start because you don't always realise what extras you might want. A worthwhile investment for a lifetime of high grade compost. The value pack was like a crash course in composting for me and now we're installing a variety of other composters around the garden.
Here’s a Wiggly Reply from Heather at Wiggly Wigglers
For Clare
If you are still adding waste in tray one after two years the advice from Wiggly Wigglers is quite clear: you can add much much more waste.
You are not going to get compost and liquid feed unless you add waste for the worms to eat. There should be all sorts of other bugs inside your kit to help the natural composting process. As long as there are worms in the top of the waste you can add more - you don't need to wait until they have finished the waste. In fact, the way they work is that the adults lay eggs and move off into the fresh waste whilst new worms hatch out of the eggs underneath. If there is not fresh waste to move into the eggs fail to hatch and therefore your population does not increase.
We have a great facebook group where wormery discussions take place all the time and there are lots of tips. Of course you can always email wiggly@wigglywigglers.co.uk for help or give us a ring on 01981 500391.
That should sort it so that your Can-O-Worms performs!

I've had a Can-O-Worms for a couple of years and haven't even filled the first tray. My worms produce loads of liquid feed and sometimes there are loads of them but mostly there are hardly any. I battle against nasty white flies of some sort in their bedding and other nasty black creatures, despite using loads of worm treat they don't seem happy. Hanging in by a thread - I think I should tip the whole lot into my thriving compost heap, but would like to harvest worm casts and liquid food. I'm at a bit of a loss - any tips? Currently only about 1/3 seems populated with worms...

My new kit arrived this morning and I've set it up which was very well explained so even I managed to do it without mishap. One question. What is the best way to keep it working through the winter? Does it have to be moved to a barn or somewhere to protect it from frost?

Superb - I have only had my wormery for a week and I love it already. The first morning I checked it and most of the worms were on the lid and so I put them back in and left the lid off and they buried under again.
I then added some more food and they have been fine - is it right that the mositure mat will start to go furry on the edges if you know what I mean, and feel slightly damp?
I put the first bit of food in last week and have added more tonight is this right? Can I add fresh food onto of the mouldy food until the tray is full and then add another tub or do I have to wait until they have eaten all the mouldy food first?
I might invest in a rain cover though if one will fit it.
Will be back for a composter later :-)

Flies in the wormery: cover every food offering with a layer of shredded office paper and cover this with some old natural fibre carpet. It worked for me. I had thousands of fruit flies the first year; now there are absolutely none. Meanwhile keep down the numbers of flies with a vacuum cleaner.

I throw very little away now - mainly packaging! My wormery has a lot of flies. Anybody know what I can do about this?

I've had a Can-O-Worms since my birthday in August 2006 - it's still going strong! It's easy to assemble, fun to fill and maintain (or perhaps I'm just a little wierd!) and gives lots of lovely Worm-Tea and composty-castings! Thumbs up from here!

I received the Can - O - Worms with Extra Value pack as a birthday present, and it has been brilliant. It was very easy to get started, and has been easy to maintain. It is useful to buy a rain cover to go with it.
